Before applying lipstick or gloss to your lips, it is important to ensure they aren't chapped. Use a lip balm. This will make your lips soft and ready for color. If you are not comfortable using a lipstick or gloss, opt for a tinted lip balm. This will only add a little bit of healthy color to your lips. Once your lips are prepared, you can apply product to them. A lipstick will give you a deeply pigmented, no-doubt-about-it color. Choose a color that complements the rest of your makeup. Apply it just as you would apply a lip balm, but more carefully. If you want, you could also use a lip liner pencil. This is applied by taking the pencil tip and tracing the outside of your lips, then using a matching lipstick color to fill them in. Lip gloss is less pigmented than lipstick, and creates a shiny, sheer look on your lips. Make sure to blend your choice of lip product out by rubbing your lips together.
